Twincam diff carrier

A "new" replacement twincam diff carrier with the larger oil reservoir, and the diff with the sun amd planet wheels.

Dismantled rear axle

The rear axle, dismantled for restoration, note the 20.9 diff carrier. it's the right axle for the car, the numbers are correct, but the diff carrier was replaced at some point with a Sunbeam 20.9 one.

AutoKlean Oil Strainer

My latest purchase, An AutoKlean oil strainer. This is on its way from New Zealand. I never expected to find one of these in the right size. There are pictures of the smaller type and the larger type earlier in the blog, and also of my AutoKlean petrol filter.

Oil Pump Casting

Another critical missing part was the oil pump. I tried to find an original one, but in the end some had to be cast as several people wanted one.

Road Springs

The springs are back from being sorted. A couple of leaves had to be replaced. Here they are in the boot with several other sets.

Rotax K515 Sidelamps

These are almost perfect. The mounts are wrong, but everything else is spot on. Earlier in the blog are some Rotax 204 sidelamps. They have the right mounts. I'll keep looking but I can probably sell the 204 lamps now. I have a spare lens so I have a pair of 204 lamps with unbroken lenses.

Capel Classic Car and Bike Show 2011

I'm going to the Capel Classis Car and Bike Show this weekend (Annabel is entry number 327). It's one of my favourite shows, very relaxed and the widest possible variety. The forecast is "bright and mainly dry, showers Saturday night". Should be good!

It was a great day.

Water Pump

The water pump is a right old mess, but it turns out it's an original casting of both body and lid and because they rot, that's fairly unusual. We'll cast a new one using this as a pattern. They've been cast before, but never from an original lid.

Starting to look like a rolling chassis

Here's the chassis, painted and polished. Front axle waiting for springs and hubs, but otherwise complete, steering linkages restored and on top.

Aluminium welding a mounting block on the crankcase

The crankcase had a large chunk of aluminium missing from one of the mounting blocks. The restorer has welded it up using period aluminium so as to get the same alloy. This is a hugely skilled job and I'm delighted with the way it has turned out.

In the lower picture you are looking at the back of the crankcase looking forward. The left hand chassis rail bolts to the block that has been welded. The top surface of the crankcase is top right in the picture.

Radiator badge and a license holder

A couple more parts. I'm going to have to have a radiator made, so the badge is very important.

First topcoat on the chassis

The first (of three) topcoats goes on.

Chassis painting and more work on the axle

The chassis is now in its second coat, with the removable front cross-member suspended above it.

And the front axle has had its kingpins ground and is now waiting for the hubs.

The springs have been sent off to be checked and reconditioned.

Wednesday 15 June 2011

Finally, after two years, THE REBUILD BEGINS!!

What an exciting day. Here's the front axle, in the garage in front of my 25hp, waiting for bearings and the kingpins to be ground.

I've found some Perot Shafts as well.

The next step will be the chassis. I also need to get the springs sent off to be sorted. We're aiming for the first stage rolling chassis, so chassis, springs, axles and wheels.

120mph Jaeger Speedometer

I finally found one... It needs some TLC, but I am delighted to have the real thing at last.

Annabel does a wedding

A few weeks ago I did a wedding in Annabel. It was a great day and I've been given a couple of very striking photos.

A Cicada car mascot

And finally, again from good old eBay, a cicada mascot. This will add to the slightly French flavour. I wasn't looking for this, but when I spotted it, I couldn't resist. This type of mascot fixes to the radiator honeycomb. It's about four inches long.

Now I have to decide between the horseshoe and the cicada. The 10p gives an idea of size.

Dashlamps

A pair of dashlamps from eBay:

Another find from Beaulieu - Rotax K363

A friend spotted this for me and bought it as he knew I was looking for one. A Rotax K363, the later model with the electrical connection slightly lower down and a beam adjuster at the back. I got the first in July 2010, now I finally have a pair.

Spring Beaulieu Autojumble 2011

A good day at Beaulieu, I picked up a few interesting bits including a lamp (on the left) that I might be able to extract the bullseye lens from to replace the broken one in the other Rotax 204.

I also found another starter Bendix and a 19 tooth Simms vernier.

Rotax 204 sidelamps

A pair of sidelamps, Rotax 204. Always interested in more of these, even if they are mangled, especially if the lens is OK! These aren't actually correct for the car, I think the correct lamp is a Rotax 203, but these are very close. (NOW FOR SALE - Dec 2011 - I also have a suitable spare lens)

Tuesday 15 March 2011

Chassis brake cross shafts

A pair of brake cross-shafts for the chassis.

Klaxon (not Klaxet or Klaxonet)

Half way through March and the first posts of 2011 !

I've added a "contact me" link in case anybody needs to get in touch.

I finally found a Klaxon (as opposed to the smaller  Klaxet or Klaxonet). It's next to a Klaxonet to give some idea of scale. I've sold the Klaxonet and it's now all polished up and in a 3-Litre Bentley.

Another Auto Klean

Another Auto Klean - too small again, but the internals of this one are in really nice condition.

Dashboard lamp & switch

A nice dashboard lamp (I'll need another the same) and a pull-switch.
